[SG:U] Street Stories 5 - Kingdom of the Blind

I'm pleased to announce another Street Stories release for Sprawl Goons: Upgraded (or any cyberpunk system of your choice).

Kingdom of the Blind is the fifth offering in this series of scenario frameworks, involving a Chinese military drone, a corporate account manager's breakdown, a heinous crime, gangbangers and ska.

Caution: This adventure seed makes some reference to sexual activity, sex work, psychosis and homicide. And The Chunker.

Get it at DTRPG: STREET STORIES 5

Get it at itch: STREET STORIES 5

All Titles Over 30% Off

Would you refuse a great deal on hot PDFs from this man?

Just a quick heads up - ALL Geist Hack Games digital titles are marked down by over 30% for the next week at both itch and dtrpg (links below).

The sale at ITCH is already running and there's a mega-saving-bundle of all the titles available, too.

The sale at DTRPG begins tomorrow (because I didn't set it up soon enough lol) and the Carbon Edition and SG Omnibus in print are both also available at a discounted price (as of now).

Sales on both platforms end on the 27th August.

So, if you've been on the fence about some of the titles, now would be a great time to fill out your collection. ;)

Street Stories So Far

The Street Stories series is an occasional series of short adventure seeds for your games of Sprawl Goons: Upgraded (or cyberpunk system of your choice).

While these are not fully fleshed-out adventure modules, in the traditional sense, there is enough detail here to ensure you are table-ready at short notice. Hopefully, the ideas contained within these adventure seeds will lead to many hours of entertaining cyberpunk gaming.

  • 01 - Gland Theft Metro features a dangerous deal for an unusual narcotic, between a Vietnamese syndicate and parties unknown. But who else has the skinny on what's going on?

  • 02 - Hot Skull takes your players on a frantic manhunt across The Flow, and serves to introduce them to a number of different factions and locations across the city.
  • 03 - Drive Time has the PCs sent on a run to grab an information broker's hard drives, one of which holds a very important key. But who is their mysterious patron? And why must the broker be eliminated?
  • 04 - Crosstown Trafficking where the PCs are tasked with locating a missing 'person',  involving bounty hunters, FEMA, Texan insurgents, Korean leisure criminals, algaeculture and the Kanawa-Mendez corporation.

As usual, they're all available from itch, too - https://p-d-gallagher.itch.io

And there's more to come! Stay tuned.

SG:U - Kudzu Island

Another excellent Sprawl Goons: Upgraded release from the prolific Kai Puetz, aka Gregorius21778, for your cyberpunk gaming pleasure.

On Kudzu Island - this time it's a collection of 36 Sights and Happenings situated on the artificial island favela, just off the coast of the Flow. Entries are numbered, and can be randomised with a d66.

The contents of this atmospheric supplement really flesh out the grungy, anarchic and rebellious nature of the place and the people, enhancing the island's unique ambience in your games of SG:U (system agnostic, so will also work for any cyberpunk RPG).

Highly recommended. Get yours HERE.

And if you want even more Kudzu info, check out our Q&A about the location on Kai's blog, where I wax lyrical about how I envisage this adventure-rich place.

SG:U - Street Stories

Street Stories is intended to be an occasional series of short adventure seeds for your games of Sprawl Goons: Upgraded (or cyberpunk system of your choice).

Gland Theft Metro is the first in the series, ten pages detailing  a dangerous deal for an unusual narcotic, between a Vietnamese syndicate and parties unknown. And who else has the skinny on what's going on?

Hot Skull
is the second adventure framework, 14 pages taking the players on a frantic manhunt across The Flow, and serves to introduce them to a number of different factions and locations across that city.

Both titles are available on itch and DTRPG now!

SG:U - The Flow Deluxe A3 Map Pack

I've been meaning to get this one released for a while now. Glad to announce it has finally gone live!

So, what do you get for your bityuan?

A set of large A3 300dpi colour map files of the city known as The Flow, the default setting from the SG:U Carbon Edition.

It includes 20 high-res jpeg images, showing 38 street gangs and their zones of influence, the subway network linking to Core Transit, locations of the beleaguered FPD precincts and the reach of the contaminated Containment Zone 9, and combinations thereof.

Also included in the pack is a high-res, print-ready PDF, so you can toggle data on and off, depending on what you need to focus on!

And its stat-free, so will work as a setting for any cyberpunk RPG. Requires the use of The Flow sourcebook, also from Geist Hack Games, but if you are rocking the Carbon Edition, you already have all the data you need to fully make use of the map pack.

And, as is my want, the map pack is available on both itch and drivethru.

Thanks for looking!

The Flow

The Flow is a city.

The Flow is also people, finance, goods, data, all channeling through the filthy arteries of the metroplex, 24 hours a day.

And it's what the locals call their corner of this decaying sprawl of stratoscrapers, assembleries, habstacks, arcologies, multi-malls, company hubs, geodesics and hive-slums; a metropolitan axis that stretches all the way from Boston to Atlanta. Nobody on the street can remember what this place used to be called anymore.

---

A system-neutral cyberpunk city sandbox, including a map and 80 DETAILED LOCATIONS spread across 21 dystopian districts. A perfect place to set your cyberpunk campaign. Its out now.

**NOTE: If you already own the Sprawl Goons: Upgraded CARBON EDITION, you already have the contents of this PDF! This is being made aviailable for those who don't.**

An Update

Apologies for the recent radio silence! Here's an update about what I've been up to. ;)

In mid-March of this year I came down with Covid. It wasn't too bad and I managed to continue to work through it (from home) for the nine days it lasted. Once recovered, I had a couple of weeks where I felt perfectly fine.

Then, towards the end of the month, I started to have some gastric problems and a fever. I assumed it was a post-Covid thing and that it would pass in a couple of days. But it didn't. The fever persisted, as did the delightful gastric issues. My better half grew ever more concerned, calling an ambulance as I was talking gibberish (nothing new!) and hallucinating quite badly. I was rushed to A&E, where I was admitted to the Resus department. At this point, I had no clue as to what was happening.

The excellent NHS staff helping me quickly diagnosed me as having sepsis and I was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit. I spent a week in ICU full of cannulas and tubes, hooked up to a bank of monitors, while they saved my life. In all honesty, it was a frightening and intense time.

So, since early April I've been home and recuperating. I got to celebrate a very poignant birthday in May. I've now been weened off the steroids and regained the weight (plus some extra!) and I'm getting fitter and stronger by the day. But, it will take some time to fully recover.

I'm very grateful to still be here and I'm eternally grateful that we have a service like the NHS here in the UK.

Going forward, I'll be gaming again and writing some more. I have lots of plans and ideas and I'll be posting my ramblings on this blog again soon.

Thanks for reading and thanks so much for your patience.

Sprawl Goons: Upgraded - Resources

While I try and get the POD book finished (against all the odds, it seems…), I thought now might be a good time to share some Sprawl Goons RPG resources that have been popping up lately.

Gregorius21778 has a whole series of blog posts that utilises the Remote Control tables and comes up with some great drones for use in Sprawl Goons games*:

LINK

And there's a lot more tasty cyberpunk stuff on the blog, too.

Gregorius21778 also wrote a short Sprawl Goons adventure, called Kickin' Dogs, complete with a new sprawl-site and a street gang - there's more detail on his blog - but here's a direct link to the PWYW PDF:

LINK

(I wrote a short review HERE, along with one for Gregorius21778's FREE Goon-Tracker sheet)

Mirrorshades author, Norbert Matausch, has just shared a link to his random Sprawl Goons character generator, that looks super-useful - assign your stats as normal, then click the refresh to whip up a new Goon:

LINK

EDIT: *Now you can also find Gregorius21778's blog articles on drones and how to hack 'em on DTRPG:

And if you create or find any Sprawl Goons specific resources, please do let me know in the comments!

Sprawl Goons: Upgraded - Expertise

Art by lap-pun-cheung. Not used in Sprawl Goons. Dammit.

Text taken from the upcoming print edition of Sprawl Goons: Upgraded:

Backgrounds in Sprawl Goons were originally conceived to add flavour to player characters, but here’s some associated benefits in the form of Expertise for each Background type.

To trigger an Expertise roll, the situation must be an appropriate one for the roll to be made and is usually requested by the player looking for a specific advantage, but can be called for by the GM (usually to help newer players). An Expertise roll is allowed once per scene or combat encounter, as stated in the description.

Use the following Difficulty Scores as a guideline for the Expertise roll. Each Expertise type confers a +1 to the roll and specifies which stat to use, as noted in the entries below.
  • Character is under no stress DS10
  • Character is under moderate stress DS12
  • Character is under major stress DS14
Any Upgrade dice are in addition to other Upgrade dice, such as those provided by augmentations, gear, consoles or narcotics.

11. Zone Wars Veteran
• Situational Awareness
+1 to an Equilibrium roll to add Upgrade dice to your attack, once per combat encounter.

12. Komatsu Killmorph
• Mimic
+1 to an Equilibrium roll to successfully copy the mannerisms and vocal tone of another person (after having observed them for a few minutes within the last 24 hours), once per scene.

13. Nodejacker
• Feedwise
+1 to a Cognition roll to accurately navigate cyberspace or to find useful contacts online, once per scene.

14. Syndicate Enforcer
• Intimidate
+1 to an Equilibrium roll to apply pressure through threats of violence to achieve a desired outcome, once per scene.

15. Chemical Edit
• White Lies
+1 to an Affinity roll to fabricate convincing falsehoods (originally developed to compensate for your lack of tangible memories), once per scene.

16. Clone Interrupted
• Masquerade
+1 to an Affinity roll to imitate the person you’re a copy of, but only when you’ve discovered their identity, once per scene.

21. Robotnik
• Machine Mind
+1 to a Cognition roll to teleoperate a drone, remote, robot or vehicle with cold focus, gaining the addition of Upgrade dice, once per scene.

22. Runaway Splice
• Primal Instinct
+1 to a Reaction roll to gain Upgrade dice for your next attack, if cornered or if you’re outnumbered and alone, once per combat encounter.

23. Strato-cabbie
• Top Gun
+1 to a Reaction roll to pilot your hopper with the manoeuvrability of a strike-fighter, with Upgrade dice, once per combat encounter, pushing the vehicle to its limits.

24. Backstreet Biomechanic
• Under Pressure
+1 to an Equilibrium roll to treat injuries with added Upgrade dice in any stressful or dangerous situation, once per scene.

25. Toxic Tweeker
• Hypertolerance
+1 to an Equilibrium roll to resist the adverse effects of chemical or pharmaceutical substances, once per scene or combat encounter.

26. Jaded Jurōjin
• Boundless Resources
+1 to an Affinity roll to request help or finances through family channels (within reason; the family don’t need an audit right now), once per session. And as you well know, they’ll definitely want something in return.

31. Fugitive Cybrid
• Uncanny Durability
+1 to a Morphology roll to ignore any damage that is sustained that round, once per combat encounter.

32. Nexus
• Street Biz
+1 to an Affinity roll to negotiate deals or to enlist suitably shady contacts, once per scene.

33. War Child
• Relentless
+1 to an Equilibrium roll to continue fighting, despite any injuries and without the wound Glitch dice, once per combat encounter.

34. Panzer Mind
• Battle Tech
+1 to a Cognition roll to exploit any vulnerabilities in the transmission, chassis or armour of tank suits and other combat vehicles, gaining Upgrade dice on your next attack, once per combat encounter.

35. Mnemonic Envoy
• Fragmentary Recall
+1 to a Cognition roll to recover potentially useful slivers of memory or portions of data from past clients, once per scene.

36. Datasocialist Insurgent
• Saboteur’s Scrutiny
+1 to a Cognition roll to identify instabilities in buildings and infrastructure, allowing explosives or other forms of attack to deliver their damage to spectacular effect, once per scene.

41. Recoded
• Whispered Intuition
+1 to Cognition rolls to gain an insight into a situation, provided by (and limited by) your master AI’s knowledge, once per scene.

Sprawl Goons - The Updatification

Another (very brief) update.

Layout on the POD edition is almost complete. Just working up a sandbox (teaser below) and some associated assets to round off the project. Once I'm happy with all the content, I'll get the book upped to Lulu and pull the trigger on the proof copy.

Extremely excited to get this finished and in to your augmented hands.

More soon. :)

Sprawl Goons - An Overdue POD Update

Just a quick heads-up that I've recently made some good progress on the layout of the swanky new POD version of Sprawl Goons: Upgraded. I'm in the last stages before I submit to Lulu for a proof copy, so we are now looking at a matter of weeks to release.

This version collates all the material from the original rules, plus the contents of both the Booster Pack and the Plug-In Pack, with a revised layout. There are also select vehicle rules from Metal Express included in this release. There are some (minor) revisions, mostly for clarity, but this version will also include some extras. More details when the book is released into the wild.

In the meantime, here's a couple of spreads from the book to prove it's really a thing, actually. ;)

Metal Express OUT NOW!

Put the pedal to the metal in your Sprawl Goons campaigns, with Metal Express!

Inside you'll find (lite) rules for vehicle types, plus tables of abilities, quirks, bolt-ons and interiors, to customise your ride.

There's new rules for manoeuvres, races and chases, vehicles in combat and dogfights, control rolls, ramming, pedestrians, collisions, along with the really big guns - missiles, cannons, decoys, and more - and the necessary vehicle crits table, for when it all goes horribly wrong.

We've even given you the means to hack your enemy's transportation!

Plus, guidance on repair work times and costs and some Sprawl-based mechanics to do the dirty work.

Finally, visit the Showroom for a wide selection of sample vehicles, from motorcycles and jet skis, to submarines, blimps, tank suits, jets, VTOLs and main battle tanks.

All this is crammed in to 46 pages of high octane Sprawl Goons content!

Sprawl Goons: Upgraded - Kickin' Dogs

Kickin' Dogs is the FIRST EVAH third party adventure created specifically for Sprawl Goons: Upgraded, written by Kai Puetz aka Gregorius 21778, with the blessing of yours truly.

As it states on the cover, KD is focussed on 'an odd job to be done in a hurry', which is, typically, the bread-and-butter of every goon in the Sprawl.

At 14 pages, it's nicely detailed for a PWYW title and includes data on the Razordogz gang, their area of operations in the Sprawl, the Johnsman Cut-Off, the gang's bolt-hole, as well as the antagonists and the person-of-interest.

It's open and freeform, allowing a variety of plans and solutions to be concocted by your players, which is a favourite GM strategy of mine. Kickin' Dogs also includes all the DS numbers and NPC details you'll need to run your PCs through this one or two session scenario.

Note: English is not the author's first language, but that isn't an issue in the main, and his love of all things cyberpunk really shines through. All in all, a great little scenario at a great price. I like it. I'd run it.

Also released by Kai, is the rather handy dandy Goon Tracker Sheet. This one is a freebie, and is exactly what you'd expect - its a sheet for keeping tabs on your NPCs and their DS numbers (and any other notes you might want to add).

Definitely one of those things I wish I'd come up with!

Super useful, and you can't go wrong with a free download.
